History

Charles C. Alderton, the creator of Dr Pepper, first used the name "Dr. Pepper" commercially in 1885, one year before Coca-Cola was introduced. Dr Pepper was launched nationally at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition and was formulated by Brooklyn native Alderton at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas. To test his creation, he offered it to the store owner Wade Morrison, who also enjoyed it. Soon, customers at Morrison's soda fountain were requesting a "Waco." Alderton then shared the recipe with Morrison, who named it Dr. Pepper (later styled as "Dr Pepper"). Early ads for this soft drink claimed it "aids digestion and restores vim, vigor, and vitality."
